Working as a professional stills photographer since 1997 and television advertisement maker since 1999, Jason R. Johnston quickly became an experienced and talented director, writer and editor. Beginning in 2008 with the award winning comedy short film Finding Cochino, Jason has since become a sought-after cinematographer whose work on many award-winning short films, including the 2009 psychological thriller Twisted Date and 2010 sci-fi drama Coming Home, have earned him multiple awards for his work.

In 2012 Jason won awards for the dramatic short film Mauris including Best Cinematographer, Best Director (with co-director Charlie Brenner), Best Drama, Best Actor (for lead Lassiter Holmes) and First Place at WILD’s Spring 2012 Film Contest. At the same competition, the horror short Welcome to Eden won Best Drama and Best Actress (for lead Christina A. Garcia) which he also directed.

The experience gained in short subjects has given Jason the opportunity to work on several independent feature films including Gone Hollywood (2011), starring Fernando Carillo (Spin, and Pit Fighter) and Los Scavengers (2011), starring and directed by Valente Rodriguez (George Lopez).

For Eight by Two Films, Jason has recently finished production of the award-winning family short film Gertie and the slasher-horror-comedy Death Slate as both cinematographer and executive producer.
